DRIVE BY HOME SHOWINGS

Recently I interacted with a wonderful couple who was looking for homes in Northern Virginia.  He wanted a rustic home off of the beaten path with some character.  She wanted a shiny new home in a more developed area close to good schools.  Neither were familiar with the area and looked at dozens of pictures before selecting their favorites for viewing on the following Saturday.  Out of 7 homes, we found the following:

1. A perfect home next to a virtual junk yard museum

2.  A great home near a busy highway

3.  A least attractive home in a perfect neighborhood

4.  A great "secluded" home...surrounded on all sides by cramped subdivisions.

The lesson for both buyers and agents is to ensure you conduct a reconnaissance of the area.  In many cases that "perfect home" is due to a great listing agent who has captured the very best of the home without divulging the not-so-desirable intangibles.

These guys have found a great home, but ONLY after truly walking the ground and realizing that the little things do count.
